Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari says that the current system of electricity prices in the country is unsustainable, which is harming the country’s development.

In an interview to the news organization, Owais Leghari said that the government is negotiating with the IPPs to revise the contracts to reduce the electricity prices.

He says that power producers and the government understand that the current situation cannot be sustained, that all stakeholders will have to provide concessions quickly without significant business compromises.

The federal minister said that the current system of electricity prices in Pakistan is unbearable, the current price of electricity is harming the country’s development. Owais Leghari denied sending any new draft of the contract or special terms to the power companies. That the government will not force the IPPs for a new contract but changes in the contract will be by mutual consent.

Talking to Geo News program Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada yesterday, the Federal Minister for Energy said that efforts are being made to provide relief to the people on a permanent basis, the detailed work related to IPPs has also been completed. Will hear good news about IPs very soon.

Owais Leghari said that in 2019, the founder PTI cabinet gave relief to IPPs, the founder PTI government had an opportunity which was deliberately wasted.
